Application Evaluation

For every potential field installation, MPM performs an Application Evaluation. The evaluation is based on flow and other operational data received from the operator, and results in a recommendation as to which size meter to be used, what additional features should be included and specification of measurement uncertainty. During this evaluation the optimal size of the meter is determined, as is the need for enhanced features such as Salinity Probe and Dual Mode. This is of course done both with respect to the average GVF expected for all cases and over the full life of the well. Below is shown a typical example.

.In this offshore (topside) field example, both the gas and the liquid rates are varying for different cases. The corresponding GVF of the well is developing from around 65% to 99%.
Also for this application, we would recommend the meter to be equipped with Dual Mode.

In order to facilitate the evaluation process, we recommend the Application Description Form to be filled out and submitted to us. This will enable MPM to perform an evaluation of the multiphase/wetgas metering for the particular application, and the data will serve as a basis for suggesting a type and size of meter to be used.

Where to install

Multi Phase Meters can be installed at many different locations, depending on the measurement requirements.
Very often meters are installed directly on the well-head, to enable real-time monitoring of what's flowing from the well. If the well-heads are dry, the meters are typically installed just down-stream the x-mas tree (upstream the choke). Subsea, the meters are installed at the tree, in a separate Flow Control Module, or in a jumper. The best monitoring is achieved if one meter is installed on each well.
