Turbine and compressor monitoring

Turbine monitoring is a new application area for wetgas meters, enabled by the DropletCount® function of the MPM meter. DropletCount® is also an enabling feature for compressor monitoring purposes, where there is a need to detect liquid volumes flowing with the gas. Such small liquid fractions can have detrimental effect on the operation of the turbine or compressor. The MPM meter is available for use in both topside and subsea process applications.

.The figure shows results from full-scale tests at K-lab, Norway, where the Operator has installed a 10" MPM meter. The MPM meter demonstrated GVF measurement sensitivity of < 20 ppm and reliable water detection of < 0.002% .The typical GVF for such applications is in the >99.9 % range. The MPM meter can provide measurements which are very sensitive and it is capable to detect small amounts of liquid (~ 20 ppm) with a measurement resolution and response time of 100 mS (10 Hz). In addition, the meter is extremely tolerant with respect to uncertainties and changes in the PVT properties of oil, water and gas.

Field proven

The performance of the DropletCount® functionality has been thoroughly verified during field testing. Particularly, lots of tests have been performed at K-Lab, SWRI and the MPM Flow Laboratory. At K-lab, a 10” MPM meter (picture below) has been used as part of StatoilHydro’s Boosting project for the Åsgard field. The nature of this project has allowed very comprehensive testing over many months, for a large variation of GVF (all > 99%).
